Basel Tattoo 2023: Once around the world

The Basel Tattoo 2023 goes around the world. Top formations from New Zealand, Nepal, Europe, Canada and Mexico await you. With the Lucerne Marching Band and the recruits' play of the Swiss military band, a large portion of Swiss quality is also represented, as befits their status. The show is completed with lots of bagpipe music and an emotional Scottish act. Tickets for the Basel Tattoo from July 14th to 22nd, 2023 are now available on baseltattoo.ch.

Last year's anniversary show «15 Years Basel Tattoo» wowed the audience completely. But we didn't have time for long breaks. «After this year's success, we managed to flip the switch immediately and focus on the future. We could for that Basel Tattoo 2023 sign great bands from all over the world and can therefore pick up seamlessly where we left off, »says the producer Erik Julliard.

From the other end of the world comes New Zealand's musical "national team", the New Zealand Army Band. The "Kiwis" impress with a creative program and their famous, ritual Haka dance. The journey continues across the Pacific to Mexico to the colorful Aztecs, dancers and mariachis, who impress with passionate and spirited performances. A little further north, in Canada, the Canadiana Celtic Highland Dancers are at home. In their dance, the 50 top dancers tell the story of the Scottish migrants. Five Canadian pipe bands and a delegation from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police accompany the dancers and honor the historic connection between Scotland and Canada. The last stage leads back to Europe, more precisely to the Band of the Royal Regiment of Scotland. Although Scottish bands are inextricably linked to bagpipes, this group has a long tradition of brass music and can look back on a musical heritage that stretches back to the time of Mozart.

Of course they can too Massed Pipes and Drums not missing. In addition to their traditional march-in at the beginning of the show, the 200 bagpipe players and drummers from three continents will also take part in the Scottish act and in the finale, creating goosebumps with moving melodies.

Swiss quality is tradition

To each Basel Tattoo includes a portion of «Swissness». In 2023, the Lucerne Marching Band will be guests in the courtyard of the barracks. The Marching Band is the parade formation of Feldmusik Luzern. In her blue and white historical uniforms, she takes part in important events at home and abroad. Various prizes won in music and marching competitions underline their quality. The recruit game of the Swiss military band also stands for local values and musical class. At the end of their training, the young and dynamic musicians will present their skills, versatility and enthusiasm.
