Tattoos have always supported charitable institutions. In times of war surviving families, widows, orphans and invalids were supported. The non-profit tradition is still maintained today with all well-known tattoos around the world. The Basel Tattoo is committed to this tradition and therefore founded the Basel Tattoo Charity in 2010.
With the Basel Tattoo Charity we support social, charitable, cultural and ecological projects such as the Basel boys and girls music, the Unterwalden youth wind orchestra, the barracks area meeting point or the foundation for children with cancer. In particular, the next generation of musicians is very important to us. Around two thirds of the funds available therefore generally flow into this area.
The income of the Basel Tattoo Charity comes from the commitment of the Federal Department of Defense, Civil Protection and Sport (DDPS). Due to the patronage of the DDPS, we are not only allowed to call ourselves the official tattoo of Switzerland, but also rely on the support of the Swiss Army during assembly and dismantling. It has therefore been agreed that the amounts that can be saved thanks to the personnel and logistical support of the Swiss Army will flow into the Basel Tattoo Charity every year. It is very important to us that, with the help of the DDPS, we can support and promote especially young people and charitable projects in the future.
Non-profit organizations or institutions with non-profit projects that correspond to the purpose of the foundation can submit their applications for support to the Basel Tattoo Charity using the application form (see button).
